Lansford Alive Update
To my Fellow Officers, Directors and Members,
I recently learned from Lorraine Latham that Jesse Gindhart will be undergoing kidney transplant surgery soon! She said he will be receiving a kidney from his son. Please keep Jesse and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Also, for any who subscribes or reads the Times-News, I think it was a very complimentary editorial about our group and our efforts written by Bob Urban . I think this editorial is a nice compliment to our organization for our many efforts in trying to make downtown Lansford and the community-at-large a better place. Of course, I know there are on-going challenges; however, I think we all know these are not peculiar to Lansford alone.
I wanted to take this time to thank everyone who has helped in any way in our past projects that our efforts and results are being recognized by the citizens, local government and the media. Hopefully, working together, we can continue to make a positive difference in Lansford!
Remember, if you know of anyone who has interest in joining our efforts; please invite them to a meeting or our next event!
Thanks again,
Mark

The United Veterans Organization Memorial Day Parade in Lansford , PA included ceremonies honoring the war dead of Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church. The parade stopped also at the Veteran’s Monument near St. Katherine Drexel’s Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Amvets, and ended at Kennedy Park where a ceremony took place honoring those who made the supreme sacrifice. The special guest speaker was Captain Joe Shamonski of the Army Reserves.
A permanent outdoor stone monument honoring the war dead of World War II sits in front of Saint Nicholas Church on which are inscribed the following names: Emil E. Tomchick 2nd Lt., Michael Priggins Sgt., George Herbert P.F.C., Walter Firman P.F.C., Nicholas Zulick P.F.C., Michael Mulla P.F.C., Peter Snovich P.F.C..
A little known part of its parish history is that the “wings” of Emil E. Tomchick 2nd Lt., are attached to one of the candlesticks on the main altar at Saint Nicholas in his memory and lovingly placed there by his family in 1945.
May their memory and of all those who died in the defense of our country and the freedoms we enjoy be eternal!
