“Feed a Friend”

Panther Valley Council Helps to “Feed a Friend”

In these somewhat troubling economic times, the Panther Valley Council of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce is helping to feed those in need by participating in WNEP-TV’s 2008 Feed a Friend Campaign. We are collecting monetary donations, prepackaged, and canned foods. Donations may be dropped off at my office at 100 West Ridge Street, Lansford. Deadline to submit donations - Monday, November 24, 2008.

Feed a Friend food baskets are given to families that complete an application process and meet eligibility requirements. At my last Chamber meeting I was informed that Lansford, Summit Hill, and Nesquehoning have many approved applicants. Please help your neighbors by dropping off a canned good at my office.

All donations that we collect here stay in our county. If you or someone you know is currently in need of food, please contact Captain Gary & Joyce Thornton at (570) 668-0410 or alfred.thornton@use.salvationarmy.org.

In 2007, the WNEP Feed-A-Friend Campaign Program collected $156,265 to help feed 47,159 people.

Thank you in advance for your generosity to help those Carbon County area residents in need!

Thank You! Renee Slakoper Panther Valley Council Secretary

Lansford Alive Update

To my Fellow Officers, Directors and Members,

I recently learned from Lorraine Latham that Jesse Gindhart will be undergoing kidney transplant surgery soon! She said he will be receiving a kidney from his son. Please keep Jesse and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Also, for any who subscribes or reads the Times-News, I think it was a very complimentary editorial about our group and our efforts written by Bob Urban . I think this editorial is a nice compliment to our organization for our many efforts in trying to make downtown Lansford and the community-at-large a better place. Of course, I know there are on-going challenges; however, I think we all know these are not peculiar to Lansford alone.

I wanted to take this time to thank everyone who has helped in any way in our past projects that our efforts and results are being recognized by the citizens, local government and the media. Hopefully, working together, we can continue to make a positive difference in Lansford!

Remember, if you know of anyone who has interest in joining our efforts; please invite them to a meeting or our next event!

Thanks again,
Mark

Lansford Improvement Committee

Please join us! The Lansford Improvement Committee will hold their monthly meeting Thursday, November 6th, 6:30 p.m. at the Lansford Community Center. Residents are welcomed and encouraged to attend to help support the community with planning various holiday town events.

Christmas Wreaths, Angels, Lights at Kennedy Park, Lansford Children’s Christmas Party, Operation Santa Claus, Lansford House Decorating Contest, and parade wrap-up are on the agenda.

Our projects in the past have been the Panther Valley Pumpkin Parade, Children’s Holiday Party, Easter Egg Hunts at Kennedy Park, etc. To continue to make this happen and to move forward with additional projects (e.g., holiday tree lighting at Kennedy Park, new holiday wreaths and upkeep of our holiday angels) we need committed volunteers.

Consider helping us either by joining us at one meeting, one event or all. New and fresh ideas are always welcomed and encouraged. For more information please give me a call.
